Pulse doesn’t have user accounts, doesn’t require sign-up, and doesn’t knowingly collect personal information like your name or email just from browsing. Here’s specifically what does and doesn’t happen.
What stays only in your browser
Your Saved bookmarks list is stored in your browser’s local storage and is never transmitted to our servers. If you clear your browser data, it’s gone — we don’t have a copy. Your light/dark theme preference is stored the same way.
What is sent to our server
To let you like or dislike an article and have that reflected in the count, your browser generates a random identifier (not tied to your name, email, or any account) and stores it locally. When you vote, that identifier and your vote are sent to our server so we can tally counts and let you toggle your own vote. It’s pseudonymous — we have no way to connect it back to you as a person. Read counts work similarly: opening an article increments a simple counter on that article, with nothing about who opened it recorded.
Cookies & tracking
We don’t run advertising trackers or third-party analytics on Pulse. We don’t use cookies for tracking or advertising purposes.
Images from other sites
Article images are often loaded directly from the original publisher’s servers (or, for some content, our own storage). Loading a page with these images means your browser makes a direct request to those hosts, the same way it would for any embedded image on the web.
Music attribution
The Stories feature plays background music, chosen at random each time from a small, growing library of tracks. All of this music is sourced from freetouse.com, a library of royalty-free, free-to-use music. We credit them here as the source for every track in that library, current and future.
Infrastructure logs
Our hosting provider may retain standard server-level request logs (like IP address and user agent) briefly, for security and operational purposes — this is standard practice for any hosted web application and isn’t something we actively query or build profiles from.
Content retention
Articles older than 30 days are automatically removed from the site as part of routine housekeeping, to keep the database from growing indefinitely with stale news.
Children’s privacy
Pulse is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
